Men’s and Women’s Swimming Teams Swept by CSI

Staten Island, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's and Women's Swimming teams were swept by the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action on Tuesday night.

The BC Men fall to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in the CUNYAC, while the BC Women fall to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in the CUNYAC.

The CSI Men remain unbeaten improving to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the CUNYAC, while the CSI Women improve to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the CUNYAC.

On the Women's side, Brooklyn took first place in seven of the 13 events; however, the Dolphins would score 29 total points in the two diving events to propel the home team to a 124-105 victory.

The Bulldogs began the meet by taking first place in the opening event, the 200-Yard Medley Relay, as the quartet of Stephanie Caravello, Enlisa Ng Ou, Valentina Monroy and Anju Gonzalez posted a top time of 2:09.42.

Gonzalez also took first place in both the 50-Yard Freestyle (28.41) and the 100-Yard Freestyle (1:03.07) to cap off a strong individual performance. Monroy was the first to touch the wall in the 100-Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:12.84, while Megan Pendergast (2:19.59; 200-Yard Freestyle), Angela Redekop (2:36.20; 200-Yard IM) and Jenny Lee (1:10.66; 100-Yard Backstroke) also took home first place finishes.

On the Men's side, Brooklyn dropped a 158-71 decision. Maksym Soloninko took first place in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:13.02 and second place in the 200-Yard IM with a time of 2:32.14.

Blake Bakal (2:25.95) and Lenny Galindo (2:30.58) took second and third place, respectively, in the 200-Yard Freestyle; while Ka Ho Yeung (6:32.63) and Galindo (7:06.58) took second and third place, respectively, in the 500-Yard Freestyle. Elliott Weinberg registered two third place finishes in the 50-Yard Freestyle (27.37) and the 100-Yard Freestyle (1:00.76).

Brooklyn will be back in action this Friday, November 22, as the Bulldogs will take on the Cardinals of York College in another CUNYAC matchup. The meet is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start time at the West Quad Center.
