Brooklyn, NY --- Brooklyn College will enter the 2013 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC)/Pepsi Women's Volleyball Championships as the #4 seed after posting a 5-3 record in conference play.
The Bulldogs will open the CUNYAC Championships against the #5 seeded Beavers of the City College of New York (CCNY) on Tuesday, November 5
th at 6:00 pm at the West Quad Center.
During their regular season meeting, BC defeated CCNY in a five-set thriller on the road, 3-2 (25-17, 17-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-13), on October 24
th at Nat Holman Gymnasium.
Looking to lead the Bulldogs to a deep run in the conference championships will be senior
Jillian Escobar and freshmen
Julia Bogdan,
Francesca LoCascio and
Crystal Wu.
Escobar, a four-year member of the BC Women's Volleyball team, two-time CUNYAC All-Star and captain, had another stellar season for the Bulldogs in her final season, totaling 180 kills (1.98 k/set), 60 aces (0.66 SA/set) and a career-best 200 digs (2.20 d/set).
Bogdan made an immediate impact in her rookie season, leading the team in kills with 224 (2.55 k/set), to go along with 47 aces (0.53 SA/set), 153 digs (1.74 d/set) and 13 total blocks. Classmate LoCascio also made an instant impact in her first year, finishing the regular season with 131 kills (1.42 k/set) and a team-best 35 total blocks.
Pacing the Brooklyn offense was another first-year player in Wu, who dished out a team-leading 454 assists (5.34 a/set), to go along with 140 digs (1.65 d/set).
Other key players that will be vital to the Bulldogs' postseason success will be seniors
Manon Bailly and
Lisenia Rodriguez and sophomore
Yelizaveta Malysheva.
If Brooklyn is able to get passed CCNY, the Bulldogs will advance to the semifinals round on Friday, November 8
th at Hunter College, where the winner between #1 Baruch College and #8 Medgar Evers College will await. That game is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start time. The final will be held the same day at 8:00 pm.
