Women’s Volleyball Takes on #1 Baruch in CUNYAC Semifinals

Brooklyn, NY --- The #4 seeded Brooklyn College Bulldogs will take on the top overall seed Baruch College Bearcats in the semifinals round of the 2013 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC)/Pepsi Women's Volleyball Championships tomorrow, Friday, November 8th at 6:00 pm at the Hunter College Sportsplex.

If Brooklyn can upset the Bearcats, the Bulldogs will play in the championship final the same day at 8:00 pm.

Baruch defeated Brooklyn in the regular season, 3-0 (25-6, 25-19, 26-24), on September 14th on a neutral court at York College.

The Bulldogs defeated #5 City College of New York (CCNY) in the quarterfinals match, 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-20), to reach the semifinals; while the Bearcats downed #8 Medgar Evers College, 3-0 (25-5, 25-4, 25-9), in their quarterfinals match to reach the semifinals.

Leading Brooklyn this season has been freshman Julia Bogdan, the CUNYAC Rookie of the Year, who leads the team in kills with 233. The Staten Island native is also second on the squad in aces (50) and third in both digs (165) and total blocks (14). Senior Jillian Escobar, a three-time CUNYAC All-Star, is second on the team kills (186), while ranking first in both aces (61) and digs (210).

Freshman Francesca LoCascio has had a strong rookie campaign with 140 kills and a team-best 35 total blocks; while classmate Crystal Wu has paced the offense with a team-leading 478 assists.

Baruch is led by Rebecca Peralta's 363 kills and 70 aces, both team-highs, while McKenzie Davisdon (348 kills) and Sydney Parks (239 kills) have also contributed to the offense. Crystle Dela Cruz has totaled 1,040 assists on the season, while Amy Sung has been strong defensively with 333 digs.

Admission to the women's volleyball championship is free; however, fans must register for tickets in advance online. You can register for tickets here.
