Men’s and Women’s Swimming Teams Fall at Purchase

Purchase, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's and Women's Swimming teams lost their respective meets on Wednesday evening on the road in Purchase, NY against the Panthers of SUNY Purchase. The Men fell by a score of 106-83, while the Women came up just short 105-97.

On the Women's side, BC was led by senior Valentina Monroy and junior Jenny Lee.

Monroy took a home a pair of first place finishes in her individual events in the 100-Yard Butterfly (1:15.25) and the 500-Yard Freestyle (6:16.50), while Lee also placed first in two events, the 1,000-Yard Freestyle (12:35.47) and the 100-Yard Backstroke (1:11.25). Lee also added a second place finish on the night in the 200-Yard IM with a time of 2:36.03.

Senior Megan Pendergast was the first to touch the wall in the 200-Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:20.14. She also added a second place finish in the 500-Yard Freestyle (6:30.45). Brooklyn also took home first place in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:55.66.

Junior Anju Gonzalez contributed with a strong showing earning two second place finishes in the 50-Yard Freestyle (28.12) and the 100-Yard Freestyle (1:04.16). Classmate Enlisa Ng Ou just missed out on a first place finish in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:17.67, as Purchase's Amanda Gibson slipped in with a time of 1:17.17.

On the Men's side, freshman Maksym Soloninko was credited with a first place finish in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:13.19. The Bulldogs also took home a first place finish in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:50.36.

Junior Ka Ho Yeung took home second place in both of the long distance events, the 1,000-Yard Freestyle (13:56.90) and the 500-Yard Freestyle (6:31.11). Sophomore Fong Zeng placed second in the 50-Yard Freestyle (26.87), while classmate Maged Mahmoud also took home a second place finish with a time of 1:12.96 in the 100-Yard Backstroke.

Brooklyn will now take a break for finals and will return to action on Friday, January 3rd, as the Bulldogs will host the Lightning of Lehman College in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action. The meet is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start time at the West Quad Center.
