Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis team defeated the Blue Angels of the College of New Rochelle by a score of 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the Roosevelt Courts.
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 2-0 on the year, while the Blue Angels open their season at 0-1.
BC would begin the match with a 2-0 advantage, as New Rochelle was forced to forfeit #3 doubles and #6 singles, due to only having five players.
Coming in doubles play, the duo of sophomore
Suraya Maenhout and junior
Rosalia Xue cruised to an 8-1 win at #1 doubles, while the tandem of senior
Olayinka Sarayi and freshman
Julia Krechmar picked up an 8-0 win at #2 doubles. For Krechmar, it would be her first collegiate win, as she made her BC debut.
Maenhout and Sarayi would also gain victories in singles play, as Maenhout earned a hard fought, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), win at #1 singles, while Sarayi took home a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at #2 singles.
Rounding out singles action were senior
Norma Lynn Chabbott (6-3, 6-3), sophomore
Sarah Bildirici (6-0, 6-0) and freshman
Diana Beshta (6-0, 6,0), winning at #3, #4 and #5 singles, respectively.
Brooklyn will be back in action on Thursday, September 12th, when the Bulldogs will open City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play against the Beavers of the City College of New York (CCNY). The match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start at the Roosevelt Courts.
