Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis team defeated the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College at the Roosevelt Courts on Saturday afternoon by a score of 7-2.
The win moves BC to 3-0 overall on the season, while Sarah Lawrence drops to 2-1 overall on the year.
The Bulldogs took an early 2-1 advantage following doubles play, as the duo
Yuliya Orkis and
Suraya Maenhout took home a win at #1 doubles, 8-0; while the tandem of
Ekaterina Mospanova and
Rosalia Xue was victorious at #2 doubles, 8-2.
The Gryphons took #3 doubles, as the pairing of Autumn Atkinson and Juliet Slade won 8-5.
Orkis, Mospanova, Maenhout and Xue would also go on to win their respective singles matches, as the Bulldogs would eventually take five out of six singles matches en route to their 7-2 win.
Orkis won her #1 singles match, 6-0, 6-0, while Mospanova (6-0, 6-0), Maenhout (6-1, 6-2) and Xue (6-0, 6-0) won #2, #3 and #4 singles, respectively.
Diana Beshta won her #6 singles match 6-3, 6-1 to round out the Brooklyn wins.
Sarah Lawrence's lone singles win would come from Atkinson, who won 6-2, 6-3 at #5 singles.
Brooklyn will return to the courts on Wednesday, September 18th, as the Bulldogs will begin City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play against the City College of New York (CCNY). The match is slated for a 4:30 pm start time at the Roosevelt Courts.
