Women's Tennis Blanks St. Joe's 9-0

Box Score

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis Team was impressive in non-conference action Monday afternoon as they shutout visiting St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, 9-0, improving to 6-0 on the season. The Bears fall to 0-2 on the year.

The Bulldogs showed their dominance from the start of the match, as Suraya Maenhout and Rosalia Xue blanked the St. Joe's #1 doubles duo of Kelly McNamee and Samantha Rossi., 8-0.

BC also won an 8-0 decision in #3 doubles, as the freshman combination of Julia Krechmar and Diana Beshta cruised past the Bears' Madeline Moravek and Mary Edward.

The #2 doubles match was the most competitive of the three, as Maria Sanz and Sarah Bildirici, knocked off Victoria LoBosco and Deirdre Lavelle, 8-2

Singles play produced much of the same result as Brooklyn did not lose a set. Maenhut was impressive in #1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 over McNamee. Sanz battled past LoBasco 6-3 in the first set before putting her away 6-0 in set two for the #2 singles victory.

Xue made quick work or Rossi in their #3 match, winning 6-0, 6-0, as did Krechmar, who won by the same score in her #6 match vs. Edward. The win was Krechmar's first singles victory of her college career.

Bildirichi got past Lavelle 6-3, 6-1 in #4 singles, while senior Gianna Gelosi defeated Moravek 6-2, 6-0.

While 6-0 to this point of the season, the competition will stiffen this week as league opponents, Baruch (Tuesday) and Hunter (Wednesday), are upcoming. Both matches will take place at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing.

Head Coach Ahmad Odetalla is impressed with his team to date, but knows the team must play well in the conference, saying, "I loved the aggressiveness we came out with today and it was key for us to not let up throughout. We need to continue to play well with Baruch and Hunter up next."
