Box Score Bronx, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team dropped a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) on Thursday evening on the road against the Lightning of Lehman College, by a score of 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-14).
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to an even 5-5 overall on the season and 1-3 in the CUNYAC; while the Lightning improve to 10-2 overall on the year and remain undefeated in conference play at 4-0.
Freshman
Anna Li recorded two kills, while sophomore
Yelizaveta Malysheva had a team-best five digs, to go along with two service aces. Freshman
Crystal Wu chipped in with four digs and two assists, while senior
Lisenia Rodriguez also finished with four digs. Senior
Manon Bailly added a solo block, to go along with a block assist with Malysheva.
The BC offense struggled to get going all match long, registering just six kills on the night.
For Lehman, Jo-Marie Aquino led all players with a match-high 10 kills, while Cari English contributed with five kills and six service aces. Jessica Gonzalez dished out 22 assists, while Imani Dubois contributed with nine digs.
The opening set featured a tight sea-saw battle with nine ties and five lead changes. Tied at 17 all, the Lightning used a 5-0 run to put the Bulldogs away en route to their 25-20 win.
The beginning of the second set saw much of the same, as the teams traded points. With Brooklyn ahead, 6-5, Lehman took full control of the set with a 13-3 run to go up 18-9. The Lightning would eventually go on to win 25-14 to take a 2-0 lead.
Lehman would complete the three-set sweep, as the Lightning used a 12-1 run in the final set to take an identical 25-14 win.
Brooklyn will be back on the court tomorrow, Friday, September 27th, as the Bulldogs will participate in the two-day Stevens Invitational in Hoboken, NJ. BC will open against New York University at 4:00 pm and later take on Susquehanna University at 6:00 pm on day one. Brooklyn will conclude the invitational on Saturday, September 28th against Farmingdale State College (11:00 am) and host Stevens Institute of Technology (3:00 pm).
