Manuel Baltazar scored the game-winner in the 47th minute to lead the Brooklyn College Men's Soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Lightning of Lehman College in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The win lifts BC to 5-8-1 overall on the season and 3-2-1 in the CUNYAC, while Lehman drops to 4-10 overall on the year and 2-5 in conference play. The victory also moves the Bulldogs to fourth in the conference as the Bulldogs remain in the hunt for home field advantage for the quarterfinals round of the CUNYAC Championships.
Brooklyn set the tempo in the first half, holding an 11-3 advantage in shots, but would be unable to find the back of the net, as Lehman's goalkeeper Jesus Marin made four key saves to keep the game scoreless as the teams went into the halftime break tied at 0-0.
The home team would finally break through early in the second half, when
Sirojiddin Shamsiev sent a long cross towards the box, setting up Baltazar's header that beat Marin. For Baltazar, the goal would mark his first career score.
For the game, Brooklyn held a 17-11 advantage in shots as well as a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Marin finished the game with seven saves playing in all 90 minutes for the Lightning, while Brooklyn's
Ilya Keygen recorded three saves playing in all 90 minutes to secure the shutout win.

Brooklyn will return to action on Monday, October 20th, as the Bulldogs will host the Cougars of Medgar Evers College in another key CUNYAC matchup. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start time at BC Field.
