Big Second Half Lifts Men’s Soccer Over Medgar Evers

Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer team used a five-goal second half barrage to defeat borough and conference rival Medgar Evers College in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play on Monday afternoon at BC Field.

With the win, BC improves to 6-8-1 overall on the season and 4-2-1 in the CUNYAC. More importantly, the win moves the Bulldogs into a tie for third place with Baruch College as Brooklyn looks to secure a top-four seed and the right to host a quarterfinals round match of the conference championships.

Medgar Evers drops to 4-10 overall on the year and 2-6 in conference play.

The Bulldogs got on the board early in the game, as Andral Dawkins notched his first collegiate goal in the third minute of play, with assists coming from Kenny Benitez and Lucas Nessello.

The Cougars would answer with an equalizer in the 26th minute, as Patrick Gentles found an open Zeakiel Daley, who was able to put the visitors on the board and even the game at 1-1.

The score would remain tied at 1 as both teams headed into the halftime break.

Looking to put the game away for good in the second stanza, the Bulldogs pushed the offensive tempo led by Andres Pertuz, who scored goals in the 54th and 57th minutes. Benitez would add the third goal of the period off of a free kick in the 64th minute, while Igor Pacca would cap the scoring with goals in the 81st and 86th minutes, as Brooklyn would go on to cruise to the 6-1 win.

"We were a bit disappointed not having the lead at halftime," said head coach Rawle Hensford. "We were keen on going out in the second half and securing the lead, which we were able to accomplish and settle into the game."

Ilya Keygen made eight saves for BC playing in all 90 minutes, while Kedric Flemius made 12 saves in net for Medgar Evers, also playing all 90 minutes.

Brooklyn will close out its regular season on Wednesday, October 22nd, as the Bulldogs will host the Cardinals of York College in a CUNYAC tilt. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start time at BC Field.
