Men’s Soccer Begins CUNYAC Championships on Wednesday

Brooklyn, NY --- The #2 seeded Brooklyn College Bulldogs will take on the #7 seeded Lehman College Lightning in the quarterfinals round of the 2014 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Men's Soccer Championships on Wednesday, October 29th at 6:00 pm at BC Field.

Brooklyn earned the #2 seed by virtue of its 5-2-1 record in conference play during the regular season, while Lehman took the #7 seed following a 3-5 mark in the CUNYAC.

The Bulldogs edged out the Lightning 1-0 in their regular season matchup on October 18th at BC Field. Senior Manuel Baltazar scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 47th minute.

BC will look to make its third straight appearance in the CUNYAC semifinals, after posting a runner-up finish in 2012 and a penalty kick loss in the semifinals in 2013. Since 2012, the Bulldogs are 15-4-4 in conference play. Brooklyn will also look to benefit from its home field advantage, as the Bulldogs are 19-6-2 at BC Field since opening in 2012.

Looking to lead the Bulldogs to another deep run in the CUNYAC Championships will be Andres Pertuz (four goals/four assists/12 points), Igor Pacca (three goals/two assists/eight points), Kenny Benitez (two goals/two assists/six points), Fernand Grisales (three goals/six assists) and Gabriel Isaksen (two goals/two assists/six points).  Goalkeeper Ilya Keygen will also be instrumental in BC's hopes for a conference title, as the sophomore has totaled 1,370 minutes in goal this season, posting a 2.56 goals-against-average and a .688 save percentage.

Lehman is led by the dynamic trio of Essosa Aluyi (13 goals/five assists/31 points), Hugh Campbell (nine goals/three assists/21 points) and Ronniel Mendez (six goals/one assist/13 points). Jesus Marin has logged in over 1,331 minutes in goal for the Lightning, while holding a 2.64 goals-against-average and a .731 save percentage.

BC will have home field advantage throughout the conference championships as Brooklyn College field will serve as host of the CUNYAC Championships for a second straight year. The men's semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, November 1st (2:00 pm / 4:30 pm), while the men's final is scheduled for Saturday, November 8th (4:30 pm).
