Bulldogs Get Three Second Half Goals To Beat Lehman 4-1; Advance To CUNYAC Semifinal Saturday

Box Score Brooklyn, NY---The #2 seeded Brooklyn College Bulldogs fell behind by a goal early to #7 Lehman, however the team bounced back with one in the first half to tie, and then three more in the second to take a 4-1 decision and advance to Saturday's Semifinal Round of the 2014 CUNYAC Championships.

BC, who improves to 8-8-1 overall with the win, will face the #6 seeded Hunter College, who pulled of the mild upset over #3 John Jay, at 4:30 pm in the second of two semifinal contests hosted by Brooklyn College, the official site of the CUNYAC Championships for both the men and women.

Lehman, who entered the tournament as a team to watch, after defeating both #1 CSI and #3 John Jay in the regular season, ends their year at 5-11.

The Lightning struck first in the game's 24th minute, as Michel Generoso headed a ball past Brooklyn Keeper Ilya Keygen. Lehman's Jonathan Moallem lofted an excellent pass off a corner kick from the right side to assist on the score, and while Brooklyn had missed on a few early chances, the Lightning grabbed the 1-0 advantage.

The Bulldogs persisted, and while nearly missing on a couple of shots, Kenny Benitez got the home team on the board as he lofted a free kick that found it's way by the entire Lehman team and keeper for the equalizer.  While the teams would go into the break tied, it appeared that the momentum went to the Bulldogs, and they came out firing in the second half, as minutes in, Sirojiddin Shamsiev would make a beautiful cross to Igor Pacca, who would find the net and give BC the lead.

Not even a minute later, Benitez would once again score, this time on a corner kick that evaded everyone and found the net, ballooning the Brooklyn lead to 3-1.

Pacca, would not be outdone by Benitez, as he would take a Gabriel Isaaksen assist and score his second tally of the evening in the 66th minute to give the Bulldogs an insurmountable 4-1 lead.

"We dictated the pace early and had a number of chances, but were unfortunate to concede the first goal, however we kept up the intensity and were able to put away our chances in the second half," said Head Coach Rawle Hensford.  Hensford will lead his team into the semifinals for the third consecutive season, and for the second straight year at home.
