Box Score Purchase, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Soccer team earned a hard-fought, come-from-behind victory on the road over Purchase College, 2-1, on Thursday night to conclude the 2014 regular season.
With the win, BC moves to 8-8-1 overall on the season and will enter the 2014 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC)/Brine Women's Soccer Championships as the #1 seed.
Purchase falls to 7-10 overall.
The Panthers would strike first, scoring a goal in the first minute of play, as Gia Sergovich sent a through ball to Emily Saltman, who was able to finish and put the home team ahead, 1-0.
The Bulldogs would later answer with an equalizer in the 38th minute, as senior
Bergelie Louis tied the game at 1-1 with a goal off of a deflection.
The game would head into the halftime break tied at 1.
Brooklyn would get the go-ahead goal early in the second half, as junior
Sayla Flores scored the eventual game-winner off of a free kick in the 46th minute.
BC'S defense would clamp down the rest of the way, as the Bulldogs held the Panthers to just one shot in the second half after Purchase got off eight shots in the first period.
For the game, Brooklyn held the slight advantage in shots, 10-9; while Purchase held the corner kick advantage, 5-1.
Freshman
Rebecca Harmata made four saves in goal for BC playing in all 90 minutes, while her counterpart, Briana Leon totaled six saves over 90 minutes.
The Bulldogs will now turn their attention to the CUNYAC Championships that begin with the semifinals on Wednesday, November 5th. Top seeded Brooklyn will take on #4 CCNY at 4:00 pm, while #2 Staten Island will square off against #3 Lehman at 6:30 pm. The winners will meet in the championship final on Saturday, November 8th at 2:00 pm. BC will have home field advantage throughout the championships, Brooklyn College Field will once again serve as the host site of the CUNYAC Men's & Women's Soccer Championships.
