Box Score 2 Newburgh, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team (6-15) dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at a tri-match in straight sets, falling to host Mount Saint Mary College, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-15), and William Paterson University, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-16).
In the first match of the day for BC against Mt. St. Mary, the Bulldogs were led by sophomore
Francesca LoCascio, who finished the match with seven kills (.350 hitting percentage) and 11 digs, both team highs. Junior
Yelizaveta Malysheva added five kills and seven digs, while sophomore
Crystal Wu paced the offense with 18 assists, to go with two aces and seven digs.
The Knights were led by Rachel Sabatini's match-high 16 kills (.448 hitting percentage). Megan Williams added eight kills, while Kristen Maddock and Claire Scully split the setting duties, recording 17 and 13 assists, respectively. Chelsea Barberan was solid defensively with 20 digs. MSMC totaled 42 kills in the match, as the home team had nine players register at least one kill, to go with 10 aces.
The teams combined for 12 ties and six lead changes throughout the three sets.
In Brooklyn's second match of the day, against William Paterson, LoCascio again led BC, finishing the match with eight kills, to go with five digs. Malysheva and classmate
Sasha Roopchand each recorded five kills, while Wu again paced the offense with 21 assists, to go with six digs. Roopchand also added eight digs to her stat line. Freshman
Monineath Pen chipped in with 11 digs.
The Pioneers were led by the duo of Shauna VanDeRee (12 kills) and Erin Roach (11 kills). VanDeRee hit a solid .611 in the match. Alaina Clark (18 assists) and Danielle Koukos (13 assists) each paced the offense, while Michelle Merida anchored the defense with 11 digs.
The teams combined for 16 ties and nine lead changes.
Brooklyn will be back in action on Wednesday, October 8th, as the Bulldogs will travel to Purchase, NY to take on the Panthers of Purchase College. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start time.
