Fernand Grisales accounted for all three goals in BC's 3-2 victory over the Panthers of SUNY College at Old Westbury on Monday afternoon at BC Field.
With the win, the Bulldogs snap their three match losing streak to improve to 4-8 overall on the season; while the Panthers fall to 6-5 overall on the year.
Grisales put the home team on the scoreboard in the 15
th minute, when he took a long pass from junior
Andres Pertuz to beat the keeper for his first goal of the season.
The game would remain 1-0 as the teams headed into the halftime break.
Old Westbury would quickly find the equalizer at the start of the second half, when Adan Cruz-Valsquez took a cross in the box from Angel Velez to put the visitors on the board and tie the game at 1-1 in the 46
th minute.
Later on the match, in the 76
th minute, Grisales would strike again, this time taking a cross in the box from freshman
Juan Arreola to give the home team the lead once again.
However, the Panthers would not go down lightly, as Old Westbury would take advantage of a BC foul, allowing Alexander Routledge the opportunity the shoot on goal off of a free kick, which he was able to get past the diving keeper in the 80
th minute.
With the game looking to head to overtime, Grisales would find himself in the right spot at the right time, burying the eventual game-winner off of a rebound from classmate
Igor Pacca's free kick that went off the post in the 87
th minute.
Ilya Keygen made four saves, while playing all 90 minutes in goal for BC, while Old Westbury split its keepers with Peter Sicardi playing the first half, recording five saves and allowing one goal and Kelvin Rivera playing the second half, allowing two scores, to go with two saves.
Brooklyn will return to action this Saturday, October 11
th, as the Bulldogs will take on the Bearcats of Baruch College in a key City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) matchup. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 pm start time at Met Oval in Maspeth, NY.
