Box ScoreBrooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis team (4-3, 2-2 CUNYAC) fell to the Hawks of Hunter College (4-4, 3-1 CUNYAC) by a score of 6-3 on Wednesday at the Roosevelt Courts on the BC campus in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play.
The visiting Hawks took an early 2-1 lead, as the tandem of Angelina Usherenko and Sara Beck outlasted the duo of
Muriel Dervich and
Diana Beshta, 8-5, at #2 doubles, while the pairing of Janani Bavanandan and Marie Visker downed the team of
Rosalia Xue and
Lauren Marino, 8-3, at #3 doubles.
The Bulldogs got their lone doubles win at first doubles, as
Yuliya Orkis and
Suraya Maenhout teamed up to defeat Abigail Rojas and Julia Vranas, 8-3.
Building off of its momentum from doubles play, Hunter would continue its solid play into singles action, as the Hawks would take four of six flights to seal its 6-3 victory.
Vranas (6-0, 6-1), Bavanandan (6-4, 6-4), Usherenko (6-3, 7-6 (7-5)) and Beck (6-0, 6-0) all earned wins at #2, #3, #4 and #6 singles for the visitors.
For Brooklyn, Orkis, who was recently named the CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month for September, was victorious at #1 sinlges, 6-1, 6-0. Xue accounted for BC's second singles win, 6-3, 6-0, at #5 singles.
The Bulldogs will return to action this Friday, October 10th, as Brooklyn will continue with CUNYAC play when BC will travel to Jamaica, NY to take on the Cardinals of York College. The match is scheduled for a 3:30 pm start time.
