Women’s Volleyball Opens 2014 Season at Kings Point Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Kings Point, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team opened the 2014 season at the Kings Point Invitational, held over two days (Friday and Saturday, August 29th and 30th), posting a 1-2 record.

On the opening day of the invitational, the Bulldogs fell to host United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) in straight sets, 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-7). BC then split day two defeating The City College of New York (CCNY) in straight sets, 3-0 (25-19, 28-26, 25-18), before losing to Farmingdale State College in straight sets, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-7).

For her efforts, junior Yelizaveta Malysheva was named to the All-Tournament team.

In BC's first match of the weekend, against host USMMA on Friday night, the Bulldogs were led by Malysheva's four kills. Sophomore Crystal Wu added seven assists, while classmate Francesca LoCascio and freshman Monineath Pen each had four digs.

USMMA's Cassandra Palma posted a match-high eight kills, while hitting .667. As a team, the Mariners hit .246 (24 kills, 10 errors, 57 total attacks). Riley dished out 12 assists, while Palma and Liz Grove each finished with nine digs.

In Brooklyn's first game of day two of the invitational against CCNY, sophomore Anna Li led the Bulldogs to victory with nine kills. Malysheva and LoCascio each added six kills. Li and Malysheva added nine digs, while Wu dished out 19 assists.

The Beavers were led by Letricia Marotti's double-double performance with 11 kills and 12 digs. Saye-Chantl Joseph just missed out on a double-double with nine kills and 11 digs, while Irish Iyyadurai added 13 digs. Kathlen Dos Santos dished out 20 assists.

In the final game of the invitational against Farmingdale, Li led the way with six kills and eight digs, while Malysheva added four kills. Wu handed out nine assists, while Christolia Butler chipped in with eight digs.

Farmingdale's Maia Cadle-Hinton notched nine kills, while Amanda Masson added eight kills. Megan Pisciotta dished out 25 assists. Francesca Calderon chipped in with 10 digs.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Monday, September 1st, as Brooklyn will travel to Poughkeepsie, NY to take on Vassar College (11:00 am) and SUNY Cortland (1:00 pm). Live stats and video will be available.
