Box Score Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Soccer Team had this day circled on their calendar. In two seasons playing at home on the new Brooklyn College Field, the team amassed a dominant, 16-4-1 record, and with today being their first home game of the 2014 season, the Bulldogs would not disappoint their home fans, earning the 3-0 shutout victory over New Jersey City University. The win was their first on the young season, upping their mark to 1-4, while NJCU fell for the first time this year, bringing their record to 2-1-1.
Brooklyn seemed to dominate the play early, however could not get on the board until the 38th minute, as freshman Rebecca Lalami weaved through Gothic Knight defenders and sent a ball off her left foot into the corner of the net for an impressive first score of her college career.
NJCU was not able to answer before the half, and the teams went into the break with BC up 2-0.
The second half would see more Bulldogs aggressiveness, but it was not until a score by
Stefany Ibarra in the 70th minute, that BC would take a more comfortable 2-0 lead.
Bergelie Louis and Lalami assisted on the score.
In the 78th minute, Louis would streak down the left wing and put the Bulldogs' third goal of the evening in, putting the game well in hand and wowing the home crowd. Ibarra, would return the favor, as she set Louis up on the game's final goal.
"We started the season with four consecutive road games against national caliber teams, and so coming home was like a breath of fresh air to the team," said BC Head Coach
Patrick Horne. "After a slow start, we regrouped at halftime, and moved the ball much better in the second half."
The team will be back at home for their next game, as they begin conference play next Saturday when they take on John Jay at 10 am.
