Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Soccer team began defense of its City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) championship with a convincing 5-0 shutout victory against the John jay College of Criminal Justice Bloodhounds at BC Field on Saturday morning.
With the win, BC improves to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the CUNYAC, while John Jay falls to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Reigning CUNYAC and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week,
Isabelle Lalami, got the Bulldogs on the board in the 28th minute taking a pass from
Stefany Ibarra to beat the keeper. Lalami's goal would eventually be the game-winner. Ibarra would later tally a goal in the 42nd minute with
Sayla Flores assisting to put the Bulldogs ahead, 2-0.
The second half saw the Bulldogs continue to set the offensive tone, as Brooklyn would add three more scores, led by two goals from
Shani Nakhid-Schuster with
Sangam Gurung assisting on the first goal and Ibarra adding her second assist of the day on the second and final score of the game.
Bergelie Louis also added a goal with
Yaliz Campos assisting.
Rebecca Harmata started in goal for BC, playing 75:33 minutes and making a pair of saves, while
Michelle Cranston finished the game playing the final 14:27 and made a save to preserve the shutout.
Andrea Antoni played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bloodhounds, allowing five goals, while racking up 20 saves.
Brooklyn will return to action on Wednesday, September 24th, as the Bulldogs will travel to Randall's Island Field #91 to take on the Beavers of The City College of New York (CCNY) in a rematch of last year's CUNYAC semifinal. The key conference match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start time.
