Box ScoreBronx, NY---The #5 seeded Brooklyn College Bulldogs women's tennis team did not let there season end on Friday, as they went up to the Bronx and defeated the #4 seed, Lehman College, 6-3, to advance to the conference semifinal on Saturday. Brooklyn will face the #1 seed Baruch on Saturday in the first of two semifinal matches which will be hosted by the College of Staten Island.
"I was really proud of the way the team played today," said BC head coach
Michael Phillips. "We look forward to being a part of tomorrow's Semifinals and hope to play our best tennis of the season against the top seed Baruch."
Brooklyn will face Baruch at 12 pm, and #2 CSI will face #3 Hunter following the Brooklyn/Baruch match.
Brooklyn started today's match by winning two out of three doubles matches. The Bulldogs won the #1 doubles match pretty easily as
Ievgeniia Kostenko and
Suraya Maenhout downed the Lehman top duo by an 8-1 score.
Shannel Johnson and
Fatma Serageldin were even more dominant at #3, blanking their Lightning counterparts 8-0.
Kostenko (#1) and Maenhout (#2) won their singles matches in straight sets as well.
Johnson won at #4 singles, but needed a third set pro set to finish a comeback from a set down and win, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.
Lauren Marino, who was honored by her teammates as a senior playing in what could've been her final career match, defeated Janet Garcia, 6-0, 6-1.
Brooklyn improves to 3-10 overall on the season, while Lehman ends their campaign at 2-9.
