Bulldogs Drop Heart-breaker to Bears in Five

Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball Team  fell just short in their attempt to comeback from two sets down as they lost a heart-breaker to St. Joseph's Brooklyn in five sets, 25-18, 25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 17-15.  The Bulldogs fall to 6-15 on the season after the non-conference loss, while St. Joseph's advances to 6-10.

The Bears got off to a quick start as they won the first two sets without much difficulty. The Bulldogs looked to answer back in the third as the two teams went head-to-head for most of the set.  Brooklyn pulled away for the 25-20 win, forcing a fourth.

The fourth set was a brutal back-and-forth competition. St. Joseph's was ahead by four points, 17-13, when Brooklyn rallied back to go on a seven point streak, gaining momentum, which led them to come out on top by the slimmest of margins, 25-23

The match came down to the fifth and deciding set. After an early Bulldog lead, the Bears came back to ege Brooklyn 17-15. Between St. Joseph's Lauren GaNun making a crucial kill, and a Bulldog error, the Bears closed out the fifth set with a victory.

Christolia Butler was a presence on the court for Brooklyn, tallying 17 kills and 6 blocks. Upperclassmen Brianna Montana and Sasha Roopchand recorded double-doubles, adding 11 kills and 19 digs, and 13 kills and 17 digs, respectively.

For the Bears, Anna Carbone set an impressive career-high 43 assists, also totaling 26 digs to assist St. Joseph's in their victory.

"I am proud of the way our squad fought during this match," said head coach Andy Mueller.  "We showed a great deal of grit and aggression for most of the match. Christolia and Brianna led the way for us offensively and defensively! It is these type of matches that go a long way to making this team and the program, better."

Mueller and the Bulldogs don't have much time to recuperate, as they will be back in action on Wednesday, as they travel to Maritime College for a match against the Privateers.
