Bulldogs Advance To Semis With 2-1 Win Over Lightning

Box Score Brooklyn, NY---The #2 seeded Brooklyn College Bulldogs and the Lehman College Lightning, the #7 seed, played a scoreless first half, before a lively second half ended with BC outscoring LC, 2-1 in the second half, to go on and advance to the CUNYAC Semifinal Round.  The Bulldogs will take on CCNY, the #3 seed, who defeated Hunter 1-0.  That game will take place on Saturday at 4:30 pm, at Brooklyn College Field, the home of the 2015 CUNYAC Championships.

The elements played a huge role in the contest, as it rained throughout the entire game, and while both teams had first half chances, neither seemed to be totally comfortable as the teams went into the break in a scoreless tie, 0-0.  Each team got off six shots in the half, with Lehman putting five on goal and Brooklyn forcing four keeper saves.

The second half saw immediate action as Marco Thimm-Kaiser got the Bulldogs on the board in the games 49th minute, taking a Valentyn Kharko feed, and placing it in the net for the 1-0 BC advantage.

Lehman answered almost immediately as Brandon Ruiz got past Brooklyn keeper Ilya Keygen, after getting a pass from Douglas Dos Santos in the game's 52nd minute.

After two goals in less than three minutes, the game once again so a long scoring drought, and it appeared that overtime would be inevitable. It would not be, as Brooklyn's Jean-Luc Saint-Fleur made an outstanding individual play to knock home the game-winner with just 3:26 remaining in regulation, giving the Bulldogs what would be an insurmountable lead.

For Brooklyn, it is their fourth consecutive season reaching the semifinal round.  Two of the past three years the team has reached the final, which they will once again attempt to accomplish on Saturday when theyll face City College.  The Beavers and Bulldogs played to overtime when they faced each other in the regular season.  The Bulldogs were able to score in the first overtime period in that contest to take the 2-1 victory.

In the other semifinal, it will be the #1 seed Staten Island taking on the #5 seed John Jay, who upset defending champion Baruch tonight, 1-0.  That game will be at 2 pm on Saturday, prior to the Brooklyn/CCNY contest.
