Jamaica, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team outscored the Cardinals of York College by 10 in the second half to erase its three-point halftime deficit to earn a 68-61 victory on Tuesday night in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action. The win also extends BC's win streak to a season-high seven straight.
With the win, Brooklyn moves to 15-5 overall on the year and 12-1 in the CUNYAC; while York drops to 7-12 overall on the season and 4-7 in conference play.
The win also gives BC the regular season sweep over the Cardinals, as Brooklyn defeated York, 75-54, back on January 6th at the West Quad Center.
The Bulldogs had four players score in double figures, including three starters, led by
Vanessa D'Ambrosi's team-high 17 points, to go with six rebounds.
Megan Campbell recorded a near double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds, while
Nicole Francomano flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
Karen Mak chipped in with 12 points off the bench, while
Asia Foster pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, to go with eight points, just missing out on a double-double.
York's Samantha Bond led all scorers with 25 points, while Tamika Taylor added 19 points and seven rebounds.
The first half saw back-and-forth action with 10 lead changes and three ties. The Cardinals used a hot shooting hand in the opening half to take a slim, 38-35, halftime lead, going 14-for-27 (51.9%) from the field, including 4-for-5 (80%) from three. York also shot 60% (6-for-10) from the line.
The second half would continue to feature a seesaw battle, as the teams combined for five lead changes and one tie.
Trailing by four, 51-47, following a three from Taylor with 9:22 remaining in the game, the Bulldogs exploded on an 18-1 run over the next six minutes to take a commanding 13-point lead, the largest of the night, with 3:25 left on the clock.
Brooklyn would never trail the rest of the way en route to its seven-point win, 68-61.
The Bulldogs' defense played a key role in the win, as BC scored 22 points off of 18 York turnovers. Brooklyn also scored 14 second chance points, as the visitors out-rebounded the home team 48-27, including 19-7 on the offensive glass.
For the game, BC shot 40% (24-for-60) from the field, including 33.3% (5-for-15) from three. The Bulldogs struggled from the free throw line, shooting 57.7% (15-for-26).
Following its hot first half, the Cardinals cooled off in the second half, as the home team shot 41.5% (22-for-53) from the field and 43.8% (7-for-16) from the beyond the arc. York also shot 62.5% (10-for-16) from the charity stripe.
Brooklyn will return to action this Friday, February 6th, as the Bulldogs will travel to Hunter College to take on the Hawks in another CUNYAC tilt. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm. BC will look to sweep the season series over Hunter, as Brooklyn defeated the Hawks, 54-46, on January 14th at the West Quad Center.
