Softball Sweeps St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) on Senior Day

Brooklyn, NY --- In the final regular season doubleheader of 2015, the Brooklyn College Softball team (18-14) earned borough bragging rights with a twin bill sweep over the Bears of St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) (15-13) on Thursday at BC Field. The Bulldogs took game one 9-1 (five innings) and game two 8-0 (six innings).

It was the final regular season games for the senior class of Kayla Hill, Kristina Bermudez, Geena Bell, Becky Ganley, Kimberly Brennan and Nathalie DeJesus.

Pitching was the key to victory, as BC's Hill and Brennan shut down the Bears bats in both games.

In the opener, Hill allowed just one run on two hits, while walking two and striking out five over five solid innings to improve her record to 9-5 on the year.

DeJesus, Ganley and Bell provided all the offense that their classmate Hill would need, driving in two runs apiece, as the Bulldogs would go on take the 9-1 win via run rule. Brennan went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

Jamilynn McGowan (6-7) took the loss for the Bears, allowing eight runs (six earned) on eight hits, while walking four and striking out one over 3.1 innings of work. Jackie Perillo allowed one unearned run on three walks in the final 0.2 inning.

Kristin Ferrigno drove in Maria Randazzo for the visitor's lone run of the game.

In the nightcap, Brennan tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just one hit, while walking three and striking out four over six innings to move her record to 3-5 on the year.

Samantha Rodriguez and Chrissy Heyer teamed up to provide all the run support Brennan would need, as Rodriguez went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored, while Heyer went a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored.  Hill also drove in two runs in the game as the Bulldogs would end the game in the sixth via the run rule.

Theresa Armano took the look for St. Joseph's (BK), as she allowed eight runs on 14 hits, while walking one and striking out two over five innings to drop to 8-6 overall on the year.

Brooklyn will close out its 2015 regular season on Monday, April 27th, as the Bulldogs will travel up to New Paltz, NY to take on the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz in a non-conference doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 3:00 pm. Live stats for both games will be available.

BC will then turn its attention to postseason play, as the Bulldogs will host Baruch College in the First Round of the CUNYAC Softball Championships on Wednesday, April 29th. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm at BC Field.
