Box Score New York, NY --- On Wednesday afternoon the Brooklyn College men's soccer team traveled to Randall's Island, where they defeated The City College of New York, 2-1, in overtime. The victory was the Bulldogs second overtime win on the season, improving their season record to 3-3-0, 1-0-0 CUNYAC. The Beavers dropped to 3-4-0, 1-1-0 CUNYAC.
City came out very aggressive to start the game with several forays down the right flank to create a multitude of opportunities with crosses into the eighteen yard box. The Bulldogs weathered the storm and tallied the first goal of the match on a
Jordy Ortiz strike after a CCNY turnover in the penalty box. The goal was Ortiz's second in as many games.
The first half concluded with some back and forth play, and a missed opportunity wide by BC's
Jerry Morales on an empty net at the 43:21 mark.
The second half produced much of the same until Stephanos Hondrakis equalized for the Beavers on a ball crossed low into the box by Abdul Rashid Abdulai at the 60:57 mark. Regulation at 1-1 with the feeling the game could go either way in overtime.
Coach Hensford stressed to the team the fact that a golden goal is the rule in extra time. On cue, 6:57 into overtime, and after a penalty for a handball in the box,
Kenny Benitez converted a penalty kick. It was Benitez' second game-winning overtime goal of the season, and third score overall.
Looking forward, the Bulldogs will host the College of Staten Island Dolphins on Saturday, September 26th at 12 pm. The game will be a crucial one in the conference standings.
