Box Score --Release Courtesy of Rutgers Newark Sports Info--

Newark, NJ---The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer Team fell in a non-conference road game to begin the season on Wednesday, as the host Rutgers Newark took the 3-0 decision.  The Bulldogs fall to 0-1 on the young season while the Scarlet Raiders improve to 1-1.

From the opening touch, the Scarlet Raiders held much of the possession and did all of the contest's scoring.

The first brace came from sophomore forward Chigozie Atubi on a free kick. The second-year Scarlet Raider was taken down at the top of the box and the Bulldogs were whistled for a foul. Atubi then stepped up and buried the ensuing free kick into the upper-right corner for his second tally of the season to give Newark the lead in the 24th minute.

Just 5:57 later, Rutgers-Newark pushed its lead to two (2-0) on a pretty goal from junior forward Tyler Nowak. The goal – his first of the season – was assisted by sophomore Alex Torres who crossed in front to Nowak who put his shot in the lower-left corner. The helper was the first for Torres and fourth of his career after picking up three as a freshman.

Rutgers-Newark had several other first half chances, ending the period with a 7-2 margin in shots and a 3-0 edge in corners.

The Scarlet Raiders all but put the match away just 2:32 into the second half when junior midfielderSebastian Gostynski scored for the first time as a Scarlet Raider, depositing a feed from sophomore midfielder Carlos Castro. On the play, Castro hit a streaking Gostynski who shot across the mouth of the goal into the left corner. The point by way of assist was the first of Castro's career.

Brooklyn will have to wait a full week to get back to action when they host Farmingdale State on September 9th at 4:00 pm.
