Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

BC wins Fourth Straight at John Jay

Bulldogs defeat Bloodhounds, 78-66

New York, NY---Avoiding the same fate as first-place Lehman, the BC men's basketball team would defeat John Jay who upset the Lightning a couple nights ago in the Bronx.  The Bulldogs improve to 15-3 overall and 8-2 in CUNYAC play with the 78-66 victory.  John Jay falls to 3-16 overall and 2-8 in the CUNYAC.  The Bulldogs resume conference play on Wednesday, January 27, hosting Lehman College in a CUNYAC doubleheader.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 PM following the women's game, which tips off at 5:00 PM.

Limiting John Jay's leading scorer Essien Epps who was averaging 17.7 ppg coming into tonight's match-up to eight points, the Bulldogs took a 47-29 halftime lead, shooting over 58% from the field in the first half.

The Bulldogs were led by senior guard Egzon Gjonbalaj's 22 points and 13 rebounds.  He also blocked four shots on the evening.

Senior forward Dennis Balsam continues to settle in well to his starting role, adding 12 points and grabbing six rebounds.  Senior Nicholas Grasso rebounded well from the guard position, grabbing nine boards to go along with eight points.

The Bulldogs shot just over 42% (8-19) from beyond the arc for the game including 6-10 in the first half.  Senior guard Jamel Gist was a perfect 2-2 from 'downtown' finishing with nine points on the evening.

Never trailing in the game, the Bulldogs led by as many as 26 points in the second half.  The Bloodhounds pulled to within as few as ten points with 1:44 left in the game.
