Bulldogs Complete Comeback Against CSI, 73-70

BC overcomes 11-point deficit in second half to improve to 4-1 in the CUNYAC.

Brooklyn, NY----The Brooklyn College men's basketball team came back from being down eleven with a little over ten minutes to play in CUNYAC play this afternoon against College of Staten Island, to pull out the 73-70 victory. It was the Bulldogs' first game back since losing two in a row on the road to end the first semester. Brooklyn improves to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play with the win, solidifying second-place in the CUNYAC. The Dolphins suffered their first conference loss this afternoon dropping to 3-1 in the league and 8-3 overall. BC will continue CUNYAC play on Tuesday, January 5, at York. Tip-off is set for 8:00 PM following the women's game, which is scheduled for 6:00 PM in a conference doubleheader.

Trailing 54-43 with 10:43 left in the game, the Bulldogs put together a 14-0 run that would give them a 58-54 advantage with 7:27 left in the game. During the run, the Bulldogs took their first lead of the game that they wouldn't relinquish for the remainder of the contest.

In the first half, the Dolphins jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the first 3:20 of the game. They would maintain a comfortable lead through the first half and go into halftime with the 39-31 advantage.

The Dolphins would not go down lightly, pulling within a point with 1:29 left in the game. Two defensive stops later, senior forward Lorenzo Williams knocked down two free-throws for the final score with seven seconds remaining. CSI's three-pointer to tie the game fell short in the final seconds.

A solid day from the charity stripe helped the Bulldogs in their comeback victory as they connected on 12-16 free throws in the second half and 19-24 for the game. Lorenzo Williams was 7-8 from the free throw line on the afternoon while senior guard Jamel Gist was a perfect 6-6.

The Bulldogs were also more accurate from beyond the arc in the second half shooting 40% (4-10) as team. BC only shot 20% (2-10) from three in the first half.

Lorenzo Williams led Bulldog scorers with 21 points on the afternoon. He also grabbed seven rebounds on the day. Senior swingman Egzon Gjonbalaj recorded a double-double, finishing the game with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Playing all forty minutes of the game, senior guard Jamel Gist added 14 points.

CSI's Will Fonseca led all scorers with 32 points.
