Brooklyn, NY---Trailing Baruch by 14 points with 3:26 remaining in regulation, the Bulldogs would make one last 9-0 push that would pull them within six points of the Bearcats with 1:24 left in the game. However, Baruch would answer with a lay-up on the ensuing possession and made frree throws down the stretch to hand the Bulldogs their second defeat in conference play, 97-89. BC falls to 5-2 in the CUNYAC and 11-3 overall on the season. Baruch improves to 4-2 in the conference and 8-5 overall on the season.
Playing catch-up the majority of the contest, the Bulldogs trailed by as many as 21 points with just under eleven minutes to go in the game. The Bearcats maintained a double-digit lead until a
Jamel Gist lay-up helped the Bulldogs cut the lead to 88-79 with 2:18 left in the game.
The Bearcats jumped out to an early 7-0 advantage to start the game only to see the lead disappear as the Bulldogs responded with a 9-2 run of their own to tie the game at the 14:57 in the first half. The game was played fairly evenly through the remainder of the first half. Baruch would grab a 42-35 lead heading into halftime.
Free throws played an important part of the result with the Bearcats knocking down 23-32 (71.9%) of their attempts to the Bulldogs' 13-27 (48.1%).
Four of five of the Baruch starters reached double-figures in scoring led by guard Doyin Isaac's 24 points.
Senior Guard
Jamel Gist led all scorers with 30 points. Senior forward
Lorenzo Williams also made a major contribution to the Bulldogs' point total finishing with 26 points. Senior guard
Egzon Gjonbalaj added 18 points and grabbed rebounds.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday, January 13, at Hunter for another conference doubleheader. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM following the women's game at 5:00 PM.
