Box Score Brooklyn, NY---In their home opener, the Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team, down 32-31 at the half, began the third quarter on a 10-0 run, and never looked back, as they took a 79-54 decision to go to 1-0 on the year. Kean falls to 0-1.
"Tonight was a great win for us to open the season," said head coach
Alex Lang of his team's performance. "I thought that our bench came up big, and our entire team showed an exciting brand of basketball that will be sure to keep West Quad loud all season."
Alexandra Moogan came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points, leading four Bulldogs in double figures, two of the three also were off the bench,
Kailyn Richburg (11) and
Taylor Gallagher (10), while starter
Justine Vento added 11.
The game started with Kean jumping out to an early lead, as a Danielle Oakley three gave the Cougars a 13-6 advantage. Part of the slow start for the Bulldogs was due to starters
Maya Ajee-Thomas and
Twanda Holder having to go to the bench due to foul trouble. With Ajee-Thomas, the shot blocker, out of the middle, Kean was able to get a couple of easy looks early.
Brooklyn settled down and came back to close the gap to 15-14 at the end of the first, and the two teams battled to an even second quarter, with Kean taking the one-point advantage into the locker room.
The Bulldogs came out of the locker room on fire, as Ajee-Thomas scored consecutive baskets, and then
Twanda Holder and
Karen Mak hit on back-to-back three pointers to give Brooklyn a nine point lead. Brooklyn would balloon the lead to 18 to end the third, as consecutive threes would be made once again, this time by Richburg and Gallagher, and then a layup by Gallagher would close the quarter with BC leading, 60-42.
Brooklyn would lead by as many as 26 in the fourth on their way to the home-opening victory.
The Bulldogs will be back at home on Monday as they take on St. Joseph's College Long Island at 6 pm.
