Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Fall in Home Opener to Staten Island

Brooklyn, NY----The Brooklyn College men's and women's swimming and diving teams both fell in their home opener to the College of Staten Island.  The dual meet losses drop both teams to 0-1 to start the season.  Brooklyn's women fell to the Dolphins 136-79 while men suffered a 159-61 loss.  

On the men's side, sophomore Hugo Meza finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.19.  Newcomer Tommy Gaspar finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.71.  

For the women, sophomore Valerie Vassilieva finished second in 50-yard freestyle with a time of :26.03.  Vassilieva would go on to win the 500-yard freestyle final later on in the meet. The women finished strong with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The Brooklyn women will be back in action at home to host John Jay in a dual meet on Friday, November 11.  Both teams will be on the road at Bard on November 19th.
