Brooklyn, NY---Both the Brooklyn College women's and men's swimming and diving teams dropped conference meets to Baruch this evening, falling 124-73 and 119.5-66.5 respectively. The Brooklyn women drop to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in CUNYAC while the men move to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference. Both teams will be on the road on Saturday as they trip to Bard for a non-conference meet. Brooklyn returns to Brooklyn for their final home meet of the regular season on Thursday, January 19th, as they host Purchase College on Senior Night.
Despite the losses, their were a few bright spots on the evening for both teams. Sophomore
Valerie Vassilieva would break the BC 200 freestyle record, which she already owned this evening with a time of 2:08.82 for a first-place finish in the final. Later in the meet, she would go on to win the 100 yard freestyle final with a time of 58.04.
On the men's side, the combination of second-place through fourth-place finishes for
Kevin Leung,
Brian Jensen, and Dmitriy Brener helped the Bulldogs to nine points in the 50 yard freestyle final.
Vincent Xue had a striong showing in the 200 IM finishing with a second-place finish good for four more points for the Bulldogs. Later in the meet,
Brian Jensen would finish in first in the 100 yard freestyle final. The 200 yard freestyle relay squad of
Umut Tanritanir,
Dmitriy Brener,
Kevin Leung, and
Brian Jensen finished strong with a first place showing in the final event of the evening.
