New York, NY----The the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team ended their season this evening, falling to Hunter, 3-0 (18-25, 21-25, 11-25), in the semifinals of the CUNYAC Championships played at Hunter. No. 4 seed Brooklyn closes out the year with a 14-12 record, a six-win improvement since last season and the highest winning percentage since 2007. No. 1 seed and No. 10 nationally ranked Hunter would go on to win the CUNYAC title, defeating Baruch, 3-1, for their second conference championship and NCAA Tournament berth in a row.
Brooklyn hung in with the defending conference champs through most of the first two sets. In the first set, with BC trailing the Hawks 19-17, Hunter picked up four straight points on a pair of kills and two BC attack errors. Following a kill put away by senior outside hitter Rudy Zhao, Hunter closed out the opening set with a kill and a service ace.
In the second set, the teams would find themselves tied 9-9 until the Hawks created some separation with three straight points on a couple of kills and a BC attack error. Hunter would keep the Bulldogs at bay for the remainder of the set despite BC hanging around until the final point.
Hunter exhibited their championship caliber in the third set, jumping out to a 15-7 lead and never looking back. The Hawks ended the match with three straight scores on two kills and a service ace.
Zhao ended his stellar career at Brooklyn with a team-high nine kills. Sophomore outside hitter and First Team CUNYAC All-Star
Vaughn Titus added eight kills.
Hunter's Ben Crusinberry finished with a match-high 12 kills.
