Bronx, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team closed out the 2017 season this evening, falling to No. 3 seed Lehman College, 10-2, in the First Round of the CUNYAC Championships. Brooklyn, the No. 6 seed entering the playoffs, end the season with a 6-25. Lehman will advance to the pool of four and will take on No. 1 seed and host, Staten Island, in the first game of a double elimination tournament Friday and Saturday.
The home team jumped out to a 9-0 lead through the first three innings of the game including five runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning. Three errors also plagued the Bulldogs in the bottom of the third.
BC picked up their two hits and two runs of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Sophomore catcher
Shakira Feliciano led the Bulldogs off with a hit in the inning. Advancing to second on a wild pitch, she would eventually score on an RBI single driven to center field by sophomore infielder
Brianna Preston. Preston later crossed home as freshman shortstop
Anna Curran reached on an error.
Lehman responded in the bottom of the inning, tacking on a run that helped end the contest in five innings.
Lehman starting pitcher Yaidee Nieves earned the her ninth win of the season, pitching all five innings yielding the two BC hits and both runs while striking out six batters. BC starter Uena Xharo ended the season with a 4-13 record in four innings of work.
