Brooklyn Outlasted by John Jay in Season Finale

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team closed out the 2018 season yesterday afternoon with a pair of CUNYAC defeats to John Jay Jay.  Brooklyn ends ends the season with a 5-19 overall record including a 2-10 mark against conference opponents.  John Jay improved to 8-20 overall and 5-5 in CUNYAC with the victories.

Trailing 6-0 heading into the top of the sixth of the second game of the doubleheader, the Bulldogs didn't lay down, rallying for five runs in the sixth to pull within a run of the Bloodhounds.  With senior infielder, Breanna Maresca, on third after being walked and advancing on an error and a wild pitch, sophomore infielder Anna Curran grounded out, but drove Maresca home for the Bulldogs' first run of the game.  With runners on second and third, freshman infielder, Jessenia Garate, singled to score sophomore infielder, Alison Gross, who walked earlier in the at-bat.  The next batter, senior infielder, Nicole Boudouris, would also hit an RBI single, scoring sophomore infielder, Leslie Lima, cutting the John Jay lead to 6-4.  With one out and the bases loaded, freshman outfielder, Viviana Torres, grounded out to second, driving Garate home for the RBI.  Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the Bloodhounds would respond with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and put BC out in order in the top of the seventh to end the game.

Boudouris was 2-4 in the second game of the afternoon with a pair of RBI.

In the first game of the day, the Bloodhounds jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on four hits and three BC errors.  Brooklyn responded with three runs in the top of the third inning highlighted by an RBI single slapped by Lima to score Boudouris.  With two outs, the Bulldogs continued its rally with a singles hit by senior outfielder, Brianna Preston, and Torres.  However, the rally was cut short with Preston thrown out at third from center field in her effort for an extra base.

The Bulldogs had nine hits in the first game with Maresca, Lima, Preston, and Torres all going 2-3.  Maresca doubled and Curran tripled for extra bases in the game.  Despite John Jays' ten runs, Brooklyn senior pitcher, Uena Xharo, would only be charged with two runs yielding eight hits in all six inning in the circle.
