Phoenixville, PA---The Brooklyn College softball team closed out the 2019 season this afternoon, falling in both games of a non-conference doubleheader at the University of Valley Forge. In Game 1, the home team outlasted Brooklyn 9-7 before taking the season series, 3-1, with a 10-6 win in Game 2. BC ends the season with a 3-23 record while the Patriots improve to 8-20.
How It Happened (Game 1)
-Trailing the Patriots 6-4, Brooklyn scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning for 7-6 advantage and its first lead of the game since the top of the first inning. The rally began with a RBI walk taken by junior infielder,
Anna Curran, with the bases loaded scoring senior outfielder,
Viviana Torres. Curran finished with three RBI fo the game, going 1-3 with a double.
-Valley Forge responded in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring three runs on four hits. The Patriots' Kaitlyn Hess knocked a triple scoring the tying and go-ahead runs. Hess would eventually score to pad the home team's lead. The Bulldogs would go out in order to end the game.
-Brooklyn freshman infielder,
Kayla Trembone, was 2-4. Junior infielder,
Leslie Lima, scored three BC runs and stole three bases for the game.
-UVF's Shania Walker was 3-4 with four RBI. Two of her hits were doubles.
How It Happened (Game 2)
-With the game tied 4-4, Valley Forge scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good. The Patriots added a insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Brooklyn came up short scoring a run in both the sisxth and seventh innings.
-Trailing the Patriots 4-2, the Bulldogs tied the game in the top of the third inning. Sophomore infielder
Melanie Garate helped cut the lead to 4-3 with a RBI single scoring junior catcher,
Shakira Feliciano. Garate eventually scored on a walk with the bases loaded taken by freshman pitcher,
Megan Ortiz-Mengedoht.
-Ortiz-Mengedoht was 3-3 with two RBI. Lima went 2-3 with two doubles and scored two Brooklyn runs.
-UVF's Hess and Kimberly Acosta went 3-4 combining for eight Patriot RBI.
