New York, NY---The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team closed out the 2019 season this evening, falling to Baruch College, 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-12), in the quarterfinals of the CUNYAC Championships. BC, the No.6 seed in the postseason tourney, ends the season with a 10-13 overall record. The No. 3 seeded Bearcats improve to 16-12 with the win and advance to the tournament semifinals at Hunter College on Friday where they will take on No. 2 seed, CCNY.
How It Happened
-Baruch set the tone of the match by jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first set. The Bulldogs looked more comfortable in the second set, taking an early 4-1 lead. With Brooklyn still leading 5-3 in the second set, the Bearcats rallied for five straight scores to take the lead for the remainder of the set. The teams exchanged points to start the third set, but the Bearcats went on a 6-0 run for a commanding 10-4 lead. Baruch closed out the match on a service ace. The Bearcats finished with nine aces on the evening.
-The Bearcats finished with 36 kills to Brooklyn's 18 while hitting .277 to -.011.
-Baruch's Nicholas Godino led the way with 17.5 points including 13 kills with only a pair of errors.
Leading the Bulldogs
-Junior middle blocker,
Gabriel Pjatak, had a team-high 6.5 points including five kills.
-Freshman middle hitter,
Omar Rezika, capped off a solid rookie campaign with six points including five kills.
-Junior libero,
Snigdho Hasan, finished with a match-high 11 digs.
