Brooklyn's Gritty Postseason Run Comes to End in NCAA Tourney First Round at Swarthmore

NCAA TOURNAMENT REGIONAL Swarthmore, PA----Following a storied run to the CUNYAC Championship, the Brooklyn College men's basketball season came to end on Friday night as the Bulldogs fell at Regional host, No. 1 Swarthmore College, 85-51, in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.  Brooklyn closes out their conference championship season with a 13-16 overall record.  Swarthmore imrpves to 26-1 with the win and will take on Ithaca College in the Second Round of tournament play.  

How It Happened
  • With the Bulldogs looking to overcome a 20-point halftime deficit, BC senior guard, Jordan Wright, finished a lay-in for the first bucket of the second half.  However, the Garnet responded with a 5-0 run capped by a made three with 18:48 to go in regulation.  The top-ranked team in the nation continued to create separation as the second half wore on.  
  • The Garnet shot 57.1% from the field including 45.2% from beyond the arc for the game.  Five Swarthmore players reached double-figures in scoring on the night.  
  • Swarthmore opened the game with a 9-0 run before Wright broke the BC scoring drought with a made three with 16:25 to go in the first half. Senior guard, Anthony McClean, followed with a three of his own cutting the Garnet lead to 9-6.
  • The Garnet kicked their lead up to double digits (17-6) with 12:11 to go in the first half.
  • Wright knocked down his second three of the game to cut the Garnet's lead to 30-14 with just over seven minutes play in the first half. McClean buried his second three of the first half to cut the Swarthmore lead to 32-19 before the Garnet responded with back-to-back three-point makes to take a 38-19 lead with a little over three minutes to play in the first half.
  • Swarthmore led by as many as 22 points in the first half and head into halftime with a 43-23 advantage.
  • McClean paced BC with nine first half points.

  • McClean finished with a team-high 12 points while shooting 3-6 from beyond the arc.  
  • Wright added 10 points.
  • Sophomore guard, Kayin Olajide, scored seven points and grabbed three boards in 16 minutes off of the bench.
