Box Score Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer Team gave a great effort on Saturday and had multiple chances at a win, but fell to visiting CCNY, 2-1, on a penalty kick with 35 seconds remaining in the second overtime period. CCNY improves to 2-2, 2-0 CUNYAC, while the Bulldogs drop to 1-10, 1-3 CUNYAC.
Prior to the contest, there was an emotional tribute to the life of former coach Joseph Réal André, who passed away last December. The ceremony honored his sister, Ahn André, who was in attendance.
City was able to get on the board first, as Adrian Montalvan scored less than five minutes into the game, intercepting an errant Brooklyn pass and lofting an impressive shot to take a 1-0 advantage.
The remainder of the first half didn't see many opportunities, but just before the half, the Bulldogs scored the equalizer, as
Randy Urgiles got ahead on a beautifully placed corner kick by
Brian Navarrete, knotting the game at one going into the half.
The teams fought through the second half and the overtime, with Brooklyn dominating much of the play, out-shooting their opponents 11-3 over the three periods, but the Bulldogs could not convert for the go-ahead score. Finally, with under a minute in overtime, CCNY found a mishandled ball deep in BC territory for a break-away opportunity, and the referee called a foul in the box, awarding a penalty kick. CCNY's Nicholas Karkut converted the PK for the golden-goal and win for the Beavers.
Brooklyn will have to wait until Wednesday, when they travel to York, to try for their second win, while CCNY will head to Rutgers Newark on Monday.
