Box Score Kings Point, NY----Despite tonight's season opening loss on the road at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team was back in action for the first time since the 2019 season! USMMA improves to 1-0 with the 3-0 (15-25, 14-25, 18-25) season opening win.  The Bulldogs will look to bounce back in their home opener on Tuesday, 9/7, against Sarah Lawrence College at 7pm.  

Trailing 16-6 in the opening game, Brooklyn battled back with a four-point rally.  However, the home team kept the visitors at bay and closed out the first game with for straight scores.  

After exchanging points early in the second game, USMMA went on to take an 8-3 lead follow a five-point flurry.  Freshman libero, Sydney Gdanski, put an end to the run with a kill.  Brooklyn would rally late in the game, but couldn't quite claw their way out of the early hole.  

The Bulldogs showed promise in the third game, jumping out to an 11-5 lead following a five-point rally, which included back-to-back kills put away by Gdanski and fellow freshman, Aleah Rafat, forcing a USMMA timeout.  With the Bulldogs holding a 15-8 advantage, USMMA responded with an 11-0 run that helped them take the lead for good and close out the match.  

Gdanski and Rafat led the way for the Bulldogs with six kills each.  Rafat also added a block and nine digs to her line for the night.  Junior setter, Ezri Shor, finished with a team-high 17 assists.  Freshman libero, Zoey Van Vleet led the way defensively for BC with 10 digs on the night.   USMMA's Shelby Bowman put away a match-high 13 kills.
