Brooklyn, NY----The Brooklyn College softball team dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at Brooklyn College Field to New Jersey City University. Brooklyn was shutout in the first game, 11-0, before falling in the nightcap, 18-0. BC drops to 0-4 to start the 2022 campaign while the Gothic Knights improved to 5-9. Next up, the Bulldogs open conference play next Wednesday at home against Hunter College in a CUNYAC doubleheader. First pitch of the first game is slated for 4:30 pm.
The visitors jumped on the Bulldogs right away, scoring five runs in the first inning on two hits and two errors. NJCU tacked on a pair of runs in the second before BC starting pitcher,
Danielle Guzzardi, found her groove in the third inning to leave the Gothic Knights scoreless. Brooklyn catcher,
Kayla Steele, cracked a double in the first inning and centerfielder,
Stella Witkowski, belted a single in the third inning. Both stole a base in the game. NJCU's Emma Herrick went 3-4 with a pair of doubles, drove in three runs, and scored three runs herself.
Early errors plagued Brooklyn in Game 2 as the Bulldogs finished with eight in five innings. The Gothic Knights broke the game wide open in the top of the third inning, scoring nine runs after a four-run first inning. Witkowski went 2-2 for BC with a pair of singles and stole a base. Herrick went 4-4 with two more oubles on the day and scored three runs for the Gothic Knights.
