Brooklyn, NY----Playing one of their best matches as a team this season, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team gave conference foe, John Jay, all that they could handle, but were eventually outlasted in five sets, 3-2 (25-22, 24-26, 25-21, 19-25, 15-8), at the West Quad Center on Tuesday. BC moves to 4-16 overall and 3-9 in CUNYAC with the loss while the bloodhounds improve to 8-10 and 6-4. The Bulldogs remain home to close out the regular season on Thursday as they host Hunter in conference play on Senior Night at 6pm.
After just falling in the first set, the Bulldogs pulled off a dramatic comeback in the second set to tie the match. Trailing 24-22, BC rallied for four straight scores capped by a kill hammered home by junior outside hitter,
Darren Roach, to take the set, 26-24. Roach finished with a standout evening with 11 kills and 10 digs.
John Jay responded in the third set before the Bulldogs forced a fifth and deciding set with inspired play in the fourth. The Bulldogs came out of the gate on a 6-1 run sparked by a kill put away by senior outside hitter,
Jasper Diangco. Diangco finished six kills to go along with three service aces and three blocks.
Despite scoring the first point of the fifth set, the Bulldogs weren't able to slow down an eight score rally produced by the Bloodhounds, giving them a commanding 8-1 advantage halfway through the set.
Brooklyn senior middle,
Omar Rezika, finished with a team-high four blocks while sophomore setter,
Admir Cekic, assisted on 28 kills.
John Jay was led by Akashdeep Singh's match-high 13 kills. Jack Nugent stuffed a six of John Jay's 12 blocks on the night.
