Brooklyn, NY---Despite rolling in the second set, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team ended their season in the quarterfinals of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament on Tuesday at No. 4 seed John Jay, 3-1 (25-17, 13-25, 25-19, 25-16). No. 5 seeded Brooklyn closes out the season with an overall record of 6-16 (3-9 CUNYAC) under second-year Head Coach,
Lia Briffa. John Jay improves 10-11 with the win and will advance to the semifinals of the conference tourney against No. 1 seed, Hunter on Thursday.
After dropping the first set, the Bulldogs played inspired volleyball in the second set, jumping out to a 3-0 lead and putting together small but consistent rallies throughout the set. John Jay responded with a four-score rally to start the third set. Brooklyn clawed their way back into the set, but was never able to come any closer that two points the entire.
Tied 11-11 in the fourth set, the Bloodhounds made their move with a four-point rally the Bulldogs were never able to recover from.
John Jay controlled the line at the net finishing with 10 blocks to the Bulldogs' six and at the service line, serving up 10 aces to BC's four.
Brooklyn was led offensively by senior middle
Omar Rezika's team-high 12 points on eight kills, three service aces, and a pair of block assists. Junior outside hitter,
Darren Roach put away a team-high 10 kills on the evening. Sophomore setter,
Admir Cekic had 26 assists while senior libero,
Brian Fok, led the way defensively on the ground with 12 digs.
Akashdeep Singh put away a match-high 16 kills while hitting an efficient .426 for the Bloodhounds.
