Brooklyn Picks Up Split in Season Opening Trimatch at Sarah Lawrence

Bronxville, NY---Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball bounced back from a morning loss to non-conference trimatch host, Sarah Lawrence, 3-1 (18-25, 21-25, 25-19, 21-25), to go on to defeat Medgar Evers, 3-0 (25-8, 25-6, 25-13), and open the 2022 season with a 1-1 record on Saturday.  SLC would take both matches on the day to improve to 3-0 on the season while Medgar Evers begins their season at 0-2.  Next Up: BC will host their Home Opener on Tuesday, September 6, against USMMA at 7pm at the West Quad Gymnasium.  

The Rundown 
  • BC got off to a hot start to the day against SLC, jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the first set before the Gryphons came to life and go on to take the first two sets.  The Bulldogs avoided the sweep thanks to a six-point rally in the third set to take an 18-14 lead and eventually close it out.  Clinging to a 22-21 in the fourth set, the home team secured the match with three staright scores.  
  • Brooklyn cruised from the opening serve against Medgar Evers, scoring the last 13 straight points to take the first set.  The Bulldogs were even more dominant in the second set, taking a 6-0 lead and never looking back.

  • Sophomore outside hitter, Tessa Winkleman, put away a match-high 15 kills against Sarah Lawrence.  She added four kills against the Cougars for a team-high 19 on the day.  
  • Sophomore outside hitter, Aleah Rafat, finished the day with 16 kills and 12 digs.  
  • Sophomore setter, Sydney Gdanski, set for a match-high 16 assists against Medgar Evers.
