New York, NY----Despite jumping out to leads in every set, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team wasn't able to hold off late rallies as the No. 4 seeded Bulldogs fell to No. 1 Hunter in the semifinals of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament on Thursday, 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-18). Brooklyn ends the season with a 12-13 overall record while the Hawks improve to 21-9 and look repeat as conference champs on Friday, Nov. 10, as host of the final.
How It Happened
- Brooklyn opened the match with a block before the home team responded with a 3-0 run. Trailing 6-2, Brooklyn clawed their way back with a four-score rally beginning with back-to-back kills put away by Aleah Rafat and Ashley Fung. Brooklyn would eventually cling to a 16-15 lead after a Ayatallah Elkotby kill before Hunter went on a 4-0 run and taking the lead for good.
- The Bulldogs started the second set with four unanswered scores capped by a Fung kill. Hunter would chip away at BC's early lead and the team battled back and forth the rest of the set. With Brooklyn taking a 23-22 lead after a three-score rally sparked by a kill put down by Sydney Gdanski, Hunter closed out the set with three straight scores of their own.
- BC came out in the third set on fire once again, taking a 7-1 lead highlighted by a Katia Mercado service ace and an Elkotby kill. Hunter would retake the lead thanks to a 7-0 run. With the score tied, 11-11, Hunter made their move with a 7-0 run that the Bulldogs wouldn't be able to recover from.
- The Hawks' Izabella Williams put away a match-high 13 kills.
