BC Men's Volleyball Gives Valiant Effort, But Falls in Five to CCNY on Senior Night

Brooklyn, NY---A completely different team since the last time Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball took on CCNY, the Bulldogs took the Beavers to the brink, but was unfortunately outlasted 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 26-28, 25-14, 15-13) on Senior Night at home on Thursday.  Brooklyn moves to 8-13 overall and 4-8 in CUNYAC with the loss while CCNY improves to 11-6 and 6-6 respectively.  Prior to the match, seniors Fidel Maldonado, Jr. and Andres Vargas were recognized.  Next Up: Brooklyn travels to Hunter on April 4 for a conference match at 6pm.  

How it Happened
  • Brooklyn looked to be in completely control of the deciding set, jumping out to a 7-0 lead.  However, the Beavers battled back and tthanks to a 7-0 run, only trailed the Bulldogs 8-7.  The teams would exchange points and momentum until Brooklyn was clung to a 13-12 lead.  CCNY would then close out the match with a three-score rally capped by a match-winning service ace.  
  • After the visitors took the first set, Brooklyn rallied for three straight scores highlighted by back-to-back aces served up by senior middle, Fidel Maldonado, Jr. to take a 24-20 lead.  
  • The momentum continued to tilt in BC's direction as the Bulldogs pulled out an exciting marathon of a third set thanks in part to a set-point kill put away by junior outside hitter, Tommy Min.  
  • CCNY rolled in the fourth set beginning with an 11-5 lead.  
Leading the Bulldogs
  • Min put away a match-high 23 kills and came up with 12 digs. 
  • Sophomore setter, David Lema, finished with 44 assists and 11 digs. 
  • Maldonado, Jr. had a seven kills, a pair of service aces, and 2.5 blocks in his final regular season match at the West Quad Center.
