BC Men's Soccer Falls Valiantly In Semifinals

Lightning Strikes Twice to Eliminate Bulldogs

THE BRONX, New York ------ Coming into the CUNYAC Semifinals, the Brooklyn College men's soccer team looked to repeat the same magic as last year against the same opponent in the Lehman College Lightning. Unlike last year, where they were able to pull off a surprising upset by the minimum, the Bulldogs would fall short, ending their season with a 2-0 loss.

How It Happened

Brooklyn would attempt to strike first early on, as George Koufos would kick a shot down the bottom center that was saved by Lehman's Andres Barajas in 8'.

Shortly after, Hady Bakry, filling in for the absent Perea, would save a shot of his own down the bottom center in 9'.

Lehman would finally break through, as Ademola Opesanwo would find Ali Sogoba for the first goal of the game in for the 1-0 score in 37'.

After getting his assist, Ademola Opesanwo would try to get a goal of his own by first trying to shoot the ball into the bottom right and then a few seconds later into the bottom center, both which were saved by Bakry in 41'.

The second half had a slow start, but eventually, both Emir Imamberdiev and Yasin Elsammak would have their game-tying shots be too high in 54' and 55' respectively, but the Bulldogs kept fighting.

Half a minute after that high shot by Elsammak, the Lightning would strike again with the same combination that got them the first goal to go up 2-0 in 56'.

Bakry would keep Brooklyn in the game, saving yet another shot in the bottom right corner in 58'.

Lehman would continue to put the pressure with wide and high shots, but they still managed to ice the game by dominating possession and preserving a 2-0 game, as Brooklyn would fail to do anything to mount another comeback.

For the Bulldogs

  • Hady Bakry would save 4 shots on the night, filling in the role of goalkeeper the best he would.
  • George Koufos would have the only shot on goal for the night, his only shot.
  • Emir Imamediev and Yasin Elsammak would have their onlyshots go high above the goal posts
The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (6-9-1, 4-1-1 CUNYAC) end their season with their head held high, but would watch the Lehman College Lightning (8-6-1, 5-0-1 CUNYAC) move on to the CUNYAC Championship next week against the Hunter College Hawks.
