Bulldogs Close Out Trip to California with Loss at Whittier

Whittier, CA---Despite outscoring the home team in the second half, Brooklyn College Women's Basketball had too steep of a mountain to climb, falling at Whittier College, 67-47, on Monday night.  BC drops to 5-6 overall with the non-conference loss while the Poets improved 7-2.  Next Up: Brooklyn returns to action in the New Year on the East Coast at Farmingdale State on 1/4 at 12:00 pm.

How It Happened
  • Trailing by 26 points heading into the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs opened the final ten minutes of play with a 12-1 run activated by five straight points scored by junior guard, Anna Kitch.  Following a quiet Whittier response, BC cut the Poets' advantage to as a few as 13 points, 57-44, with 4:12 left in regulation following a three-pointer drained by senior guard, Alina Estrella.  However, the Poets countered with a 7-0 run to kick their lead back up to 20 and a comfortable enough cushion to close out the contest.
  • Whittier built their 36-13 halftime lead by outscoring the Bulldogs, 24-6, in the second quarter.
  • The home team produced 25 points off of BC's 31 turnovers while keeping the Bulldogs to 25.9% shooting from the field on the evening.  Whittier shot 41.9% from the field as a team.
For the Bulldogs
  • Kitch produced her second double-double of the season, finishing with a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Estrella added 14 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and came up with 3 steals.
  • Freshman center, Noha Khalifa, grabbed a collegiate career-high 6 rebounds off of the bench.
