New York, NY----Despite coming all the way back from a 19-point deficit in the first half, the ball didn't bounce the Bulldogs' way down the stretch as the Brooklyn College men's basketball team fell at Hunter College, 61-58, in the quarterfinals of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament. The No. 5 seeded Bulldogs close out their season with a 7-19 overall record while the No. 4 Hawks improve to 12-14 and advance to the tournament's semifinals at top-seed, Baruch on Wednesday.

After the Bulldogs scored the first bucket of the contest, Hunter responded with a 9-0 run. The Hawks extended their lead to as many as 19 points with 3:27 to go in the first half.

Brooklyn made the deficit more manageable by closing out the first half on a 9-0 run capped by a made jumper buried by Stephon McGill.

The Bulldogs carried their momentum into the second half beginning with a Serge Thraysbule three-point make to cut the HC lead to 33-26 with 18:22 to go in regulation. Hunter would respond on the ensuing possession before Brooklyn went on a 10-0 run to take their first lead, 36-35, since the 19:17 mark in the first half. The run was sparked by back-to-back makes in the paint finished by Jaden Casanova.

Trading leads for the next four minutes, the Bulldogs grabbed their final advantage of the contest after a McGill make with 10:18 to go in regulation. Thraysbule tied the game for the last time with a lay-in at the 8:19 mark.

Trailing 58-50 with 3:15 remaining in the second half, the Bulldogs still wouldn't fold, cutting the lead to 60-58 with :24 to go. Brooklyn would have a pair of opportunities to tie the game in the final seconds, but unfortunately just fell short.

Brooklyn shot close to 52% in the first half compared to 29% in the first. The Bulldogs struggled from beyond the arc, shooting 2-11 for the game. However, BC won the battle offensively in the paint, outscoring the Hawks, 38-26.

McGill finished with a double-double, scoring a team-high 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. He also came up with five steals.
