BC Aces All Three Sets to Sweep Medgar Evers

BROOKLYN, New York ---- Coming into Tuesday night's match, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team looked to beat their cross-borough rivals, the Medgar Evers College Cougars, on Senior Night. In a game that featured nearly as many aces as kills and a ton of service errors, it was the Brooklyn College Bulldogs that would sweep the Cougars in three (25-16, 25-17, 25-17). Brooklyn improves to 11-14 overall and 6-6 in the conference while Medgar Evers remain winless with thirteen losses, twelve of them in the conference. Brooklyn College seniors, Tommy Min and Armand Kaloshi, were both honored prior to the game.

The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team will travel to Jamaica, New York to take on the York College Cardinals on Thursday, March 28 at 7pm.

How It Happened:

  • The first set would feature three tied scores, but with a few attack errors from Medgar Evers and kills from Aaron Siu and Tommy Min, the Bulldogs would take it 25-16.
  • Tommy Min would continue his stellar play in the second set, starting off right away with back-to back service aces, becoming the catalyst that would inspire the Bulldogs to take it 25-17.
  • With the Cougars striking first, David Lema would come alive and have five service aces in a series of streaks, three of them consecutively to take a 5-3 lead early on, and another two to create some distance from their opponents, taking the third set 25-17.
  • The Bulldogs would have 19 service aces as a team, and would also get 5 total blocks, three of them from Aziz Abdusamiev, one from Tyler Pina, and a crucial block to almost seal the game by Jaden McBryde.

For the Bulldogs:

  • Senior night honoree, Tommy Min, would have 3 kills, 4 aces, 3 digs and 1 reception.
  • Fellow senior, Armand Kaloshi, would lead the attack with 5 kills, 1 ace and 1 dig.
  • Reigning seven-time CUNY Rookie of the Week, Aaron Siu, would attain 4 kills, 2 aces, 3 digs, and 1 reception.
  • Jiaian Flanders would be pivotal on the attack with 3 kills, 4 aces, and 2 digs.
  • Libero, Ali Zandani, would defend with 9 digs, 1 reception, and 2 kills.
